Let me cut to the chase. No time to beat around the bush.
1. There will always be somebody better than you.
Do not compare yourself to another photographer. The comparison game is killing lots of careers before they start. When you do this, you will not notice your progress. It’s always you vs you. Not you vs them.
Are you still at the place you were a year ago or better?
2. Be selfish to be selfless.
O boy, trust me, I learned this the hard way. I probably should be a millionaire by now. I’ve made some decisions that cost me a lot. All I can say for now is, do not loan money to friends, it’s always a dicey situation.
When I say this, I do not mean for you to be wicked. I mean, you ought to serve yourself and then others. I feel uncomfortable saying a thing like this because I am a selfless person and this goes against everything I stand for. If you wish to help lots of people, build yourself first and then you can do that.
3. Your focus is everything.
You miss this all the time. You focus on a lot because you think the more diversified you are, the more gigs you shall win. No, it does not work that way. I’ve seen many photographers quit because they shot everything. They did weddings, headshots, food, street photography. This is not about your portfolio in particular, this is about your focus. You are spreading yourself too broad on things you cannot cover.
Specialists are people who are focused on one thing.
Quit being distracted.
You are losing your precious time & energy one day at a time.
