4 Reasons To Specialize As A Photographer
These reasons will blow you away!
I’m going to go straight to the point on this one and if you haven’t checked my article on how to find your niche as a photographer, tap on the link to find out how.
- You become the hunted not the hunter. Specialized people do not need to go out to be chasing potential clients. Why? Because they have done all the hard work. Specialization isn’t just about being able to produce amazing work, it’s also about sales and networking this is what I mean when I say, “they have done all the hard work.” They have made their names known in whatever circle they occupy amongst their peers. Talk about fine art photography and your name comes up. Become so specialized that your name is synonymous with a product or the services you render. When we hear of Lamborghini and Ferrari we do not think about the men we think about their creations.
2. You can charge more because you’re known and valuable. This is one of the fun advantages of being a specialized person in your niche.
You can demand more and it will be paid.
Why? Because you produce QUALITY. Nobody is going to complain when they are satisfied with your work. If they cannot pay, it’s because they do not really need your services or product. If they did, they would throw any amount you mention. They bought the iPhone 13 pro max when it first came out for Snapchat only, and if they cannot pay you for your quality it’s because they don’t want to or they do not respect your work.
3. People come to you for advice. When you know what you do and why you do it, people will want to invite you to speak to their peers, students or board of directors because you know something they do not. A few years ago, I was invited to the Ghana Institute of Journalism to share my thoughts on photography. It was a great time to teach and help the students who were only starting out. Specialize, know the right people and you will influence a lot. I was only 20 years of age.
4. You can demand money to sell your knowledge. People like to find experts to solve their problems. Everybody has problems, even in the photography circle. What problem are you solving? Do people need retouchers? Do people need wedding consultations? Do people need to learn about lighting or outdoor photography? People always need something, be valuable and produce and they will always come back.
