If you’re in this situation, it often indicates a struggle in expressing your value.

Value used to be in the quality image, but it has become something different in this day. Not all people equate a higher price to value. They will only say, “it is expensive” and leave you for dead.

Why would they do that? Because you as a photographer has failed to communicate successfully that the value you bring to their lives is more than photographs.

You might be thinking, “that is difficult to do.” Yes, I think so too. But then, if you are bringing genuine value, then I do not think they will overthink your pricing or debate the quality you are brining.

Stop selling pictures alone and sell something different.

Is Nike selling shoe? Think about it. Is Apple selling products? Think about that also. Are you selling photographs?

When you check the social media pages of Nike and Apple, these are two of the biggest brands in the world, you will quickly notice that they rarely share photos of their products. But something you will see consistently is what their products can do for, and how it can inspire you.

Go on, try it. Check the Instagram page of Apple and Nike.

What are you selling? No, I’m not speaking about a pschology that is not practical. In the market, everything needs to be practical, not mere ideas.

First, why would you take any photograph at all? Have you ever asked yourself that?

I will take photographs if there is a family event, or take a family portrait. I lost my grandmother recently, and a photographer is going to come take photos. This is one of the reasons, to document life. Another reason for taking photos is to promote a business. If there are more reasons, kindly leave your comments below.

With these two reasons, think about what to do to promote your services as a photographer. You exist to help your customers reach their goal. That is your main purpose.

So, know why people want to take photographs, and use that to bring them in. Sell their why to them. Is it to look fine? Is it to promote a product? Is it to document? What is it? Find that and use that to sell.

Don’t make this another read without utilising it. Make use of this information. You are more than a photographer. Be a promoter.

Thank you for checking this article. If this brought you value, I ask you to support me by purchasing any of my books by tapping on this link. Yes, the starving photogrpaher will not ask this for his ego has clouded his mind. As a thriving photographer, I look to having patrons to support my growth. And I’m not doing this by begging, but asking, to get value for the money you spend.

See you in the next one.
