You Won’t Become A Better Photographer Overnight
It takes a long time.
Yo! This is not to discourage you. Did you just pick up a camera from Camera Lane, great! Now, get shooting.
Being a photographer is more than just clicking the shutter button, bam, bam, bam. There’s more to it. I used to think wedding photography was easy, all you have to do was record the events but I got it all wrong. It’s more than just recording the event.
You can’t become a better photographer overnight just like you can’t become great at anything overnight.
Photography is a journey, not a destination. You have to create photos almost daily in the right way and if you think that you will become a world-class artist in a very short period of time then this field is not for you.
There are millions of articles, blogs, and headlines out there that show you how you can become a better artist overnight — That is not going to happen.
Headlines like —
- Here is the thing that will make you a world-class photographer in 30 days.
- After reading this article, you will be the best thinker of all time.
- How to hack the craft of photography in the meantime.
All these are clickbait, a scam that will produce zero results. They may give you a nice feeling, that is the only ROI you get from watching these videos and reading these articles. They never seem to bring you much value.
What’s the one thing that you really need to master in order to become a world-class photographer?
Just create photos and don’t stop!
This is the only secret to becoming world-class. You probably have heard this quote many times by Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Your First 10,000 photographs are your worst.
If your first 10,000 photographs are your worst… I’m sure you know what to do.
You can become a better photographer only by making images, I do not mean by just making lots of photos but you have to create in a proper way, following and breaking the rules of composition… etc.
Photography is a day-to-day practice, you will lose motivation, find yourself unproductive, lose hope, and feels boring sometimes or even most times but one thing that you can do is to keep creating.
Whenever you feel like quitting, think about your goals, ambitions, desires, and what you wanted to be that you have seen, remember these things and you will find something to photograph for.
Tadaa! Here you go.
